Freedom Rides Museum
If you’re interested in the Civil Rights Movement and the history of segregation in America, the Freedom Rides Museum in Montgomery, Alabama is a must-see. The museum is located at 210 South Court Street. The Freedom Rides Museum is a place of great historical significance, having been the site of a violent attack on the Freedom Ride participants in 1961.
The Freedom Rides Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. It’s important to follow all guidelines before posting a review. You can leave a positive or negative comment on the museum’s website, but remember to keep it professional and not political.
Another one of the best things to do in Montgomery is to take a walking tour. The tour will take you through several blocks, taking in shops, houses, schools, and taverns. You can also visit the Alabama State Capitol, which was built in 1851 after the previous capitol burned down. It is now a National Historic Landmark and was the main headquarters for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
If you’re interested in learning more about Montgomery’s civil rights history, you’ll want to visit the Freedom Rides Museum. The museum is located near the former Greyhound bus station, where the Freedom Riders rode to New Orleans. It is free, but the security guards will probably not let you bring any cameras or other electronic devices into the building. You can also schedule a tour if you’re in the area.
Another place to visit in Montgomery is the National Civil Rights Museum. It’s a small museum that has a very passionate curator. You can learn a lot about the history of the Black community in Alabama, and the Freedom Riders themselves. You’ll be able to hear their stories and the bravery they showed during the Civil Rights Movement.
Old Alabama Town
Old Alabama Town is a collection of restored structures that represent the lives of the people who settled in central Alabama. The collection represents a variety of eras and ethnic groups, including African-American, Irish, German, and Jewish. Old Alabama Town is a popular place to visit if you’re in the Montgomery area.
Its creation began as an effort to save Montgomery’s First White House of the Confederacy, the Ordeman House. Several years of struggles and challenges for the White House Association led to the creation of Old Alabama Town. The effort set a precedent for the restoration and relocation of threatened historic buildings. In 1967, the Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery was established to preserve the history and architecture of Montgomery and the surrounding area. In 1968, the foundation bought the Ordeman House, which became the cornerstone of Old Alabama Town.
Old Alabama Town is a unique historical district that’s located in the heart of downtown Montgomery. It’s made up of six city blocks full of restored buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. There are antebellum mansions, one-room school houses, grist mills, cotton gins, and more. The area is open year-round, and is considered an outdoor history museum.
Old Alabama Town is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The admission fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children five and older. On the second Saturday of the month, it is free. During other times, the museum is closed, except for federal holidays. There is also free parking.
Old Alabama Town is a great place for the whole family to visit. It is similar to Williamsburg, with many historic buildings reassembled from bygone days. A visit to Old Alabama Town is a must for history buffs!
Rosa Parks Library and Museum
The Rosa Parks Museum is one of the most important landmarks in downtown Montgomery. Housed in the former Empire Theatre, it is the only museum in the nation devoted to the life of Mrs. Parks. Visitors can view artifacts that were once part of her life, as well as participate in educational programs aimed at K-12 students and adults. The museum includes six different sections, each telling a different story about the early civil rights movement.
The museum’s exhibits cover the history of the civil rights movement, as well as slavery, lynching, and racial profiling. The museum also features dozens of sculptures that explore each subject. One such sculpture is the Wall of Tolerance, which encourages visitors to fight hatred. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible.
Another great place to visit in Montgomery is the First White House of the Confederacy. This former residence was used by Jefferson Davis during the American Civil War. It is furnished as it would have looked like in the 1800s. The museum also features a beautiful sculpture garden.
If you have the time, you should also visit the Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald Museum. The museum contains hundreds of photographs, historical records, and pertinent newspaper articles. This museum is located in Blount Cultural Park, Montgomery, AL. Also, there’s the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the world’s top theatre companies.
