Places to Go in Mukilteo, Washington
Mukilteo, Washington, is a city located on Puget Sound between Edmonds and Everett. It is about 25 miles north of Seattle. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 20,254. It is estimated that the population will reach 21,441 by the year 2020.
Lighthouse Park
Lighthouse Park is located at the west end of Mukilteo, Washington. It is a 12-acre park bordered by the mainline of the BNSF Railway. It is located west of the Washington State Ferries terminal and south of the Whidbey Island ferry service.
The park was once called Mukilteo State Park and was deeded to the city of Mukilteo in 2003. The city then adopted the Lighthouse Park Master Plan for the park in 2004, which outlined physical site improvements in four phases. The first two phases have been completed. The park features sculptures and artworks, such as the James Madison sculpture.
Lighthouse Park is a wonderful place to explore the city’s history. It has a restored lightkeeper’s cottage, a waterfront picnic area, and a museum. It is open year-round, but the museum is closed from Memorial Day to mid-October.
The USS Silversides Submarine Museum and Lighthouse Park are just two of the attractions in Muskilene. You can also visit the Hackley and Hume historic homes. If you’re looking for more history, don’t miss the White River Light Station, which was built in 1875. Located near the White Lake Channel, it offers stunning views of Lake Michigan.
Another attraction in Muskilene is the Muskegon South Pierhead Light, located at 3510 Channel Dr. The tower is in need of repairs and new paint, but it still stands at around 50 feet tall. Visitors can walk around the tower and take in the view of Lake Michigan and the Muskegon Channel. There is ample parking available at the same parking area as the light tower.
Edgewater Beach
If you’re looking for a relaxing beach and a little bit of natural beauty, Edgewater Beach is the perfect place to visit. Located near the border of Everett and Muskilove, Edgewater Beach offers a tranquil setting to relax by. The beach is open to the public year-round, and there’s also a free foot ferry that brings visitors to the island during Jetty Island Days. This annual event draws more than 50,000 people to the island.
The beach is dog-friendly, and features plenty of activities, including cabana rentals and beach volleyball. If you love ice cream, you can even grab a cone from the Eats and Treats concession stand. Another great feature of this beach is that it has a great view of downtown Cleveland. There are two sections of this beach, and you can reach the upper and lower parts by foot. The westernmost section of the beach is dog-friendly, and kayaking is also an option.
Japanese Gulch
There’s something for everyone at Japanese Gulch, a natural area in the Seattle area. You’ll find giant trees, dozens of species of native plants, ponds, wetlands, and wildlife of all kinds. From a shy coyote to a Great Blue Heron, you’re sure to find something that will catch your eye. You can also find information about the city’s history at the Future Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour.
The 144-acre Japanese Gulch is located between Mukilteo and Everett. Originally threatened with development, the area is now a protected natural area with miles of trails. Trailheads are located at the Dog Park, the 76th Street Trailhead, and the community garden at 76th and 44th. A variety of wildlife call Japanese Gulch home, including black-tailed deer and pileated woodpecker.
Museums
The museums in Mukilteo reflect the character of the city and are great for family outings. These museums are geared towards the human experience, but still have a scientific and historical side. Visitors can learn about the city’s history, and enjoy a visit to the 1906 Mukilteo Lighthouse and the Historic Flight Foundation’s collection of significant aircraft built from 1927 to 1957.
Mukilteo Lighthouse Park features a paved walking trail, year-round beach access, and picnic shelters. It also has a large parking lot and is open to the public. Visitors can tour the 1906 Mukilteo Light Station, one of the few wooden lighthouses in the Pacific Northwest.
The Future of Flight Aviation Center is located in Mukilteo, Washington. The museum’s collection includes several Boeing airplanes. The museum also features the Future of Flight Foundation, which works to promote aerospace education and research. To support its work, the museum accepts donations, memberships, and ticket sales.
Off-leash dog park
An off-leash dog park is a dog park with strict rules for dogs. Dogs must be leashed, have current shots, and be in good health. Owners must be present at all times to supervise their pets. Children under 14 are not allowed to bring their dogs.
The Willis Tucker Off-Leash Dog Area has a water spigot for dogs, but owners should be sure to clean up after their dogs because diseases are easily spread from one pet to another. Snohomish County Parks also asks visitors to keep their pets healthy by taking them to the veterinarian. Owners are also asked to clean up after their pets and to properly dispose of their waste.
Dogs are welcome at most state parks in Washington, but must be leashed. Owners must also make sure their dog is licensed. The County Code requires owners to license all dogs older than eight weeks. There are about 100,000 dogs in the county and approximately 13,000 tons of dog waste is generated each year.
Off-leash dog beaches are a favorite destination for dog owners and their dogs. While Michigan weather can be a bit unpredictable, summertime temperatures are usually perfect. The Kruse Dog Beach Off-Leash Area is fenced in and clearly marked. Whether you take your dog for a walk or just spend some time playing with your dog, it will be a fun day.
